What is endodontics?
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry that treats the inside of the tooth: the soft pulp and the root canals. When decay, a crack or an injury reaches the pulp, it causes deep pain, sensitivity or swelling. Root canal treatment is the main procedure. The dentist numbs the tooth, removes the infected pulp, cleans and shapes the canals, and seals them. A crown is then usually placed to protect the tooth.
Endodontic care covers more than root canals. It includes re-treating old root canals, treating abscesses, sealing cracked teeth, caring for injured teeth and pulp therapy for children's milk teeth. The goal is always the same: keep your own tooth instead of removing it. Every treatment at Tooth Talez starts with a digital X-ray, so you see the problem and the plan before we begin.
Your endodontic treatment,
step by step
Most dental problems are painless at first. See us if you notice any of these.
Severe or throbbing toothache
Pain that wakes you at night, throbs on its own or spreads to your ear or jaw often means the nerve inside the tooth is inflamed. Painkillers may dull it, but the cause stays until it's treated.
Sensitivity that lingers
A quick twinge from cold is common. Pain from hot or cold that lasts for minutes after the drink is gone is a warning sign that the pulp is damaged.
Pain when biting or chewing
Sharp pain when you bite down, or a tooth that feels "high", can point to infection at the root tip or a crack running into the tooth.
Swelling or a gum boil
A swollen gum, face or a small pimple-like bump near a tooth can mean an abscess. Infection doesn't heal on its own, so get it checked quickly, even if the pain stops.
A darkened tooth
A tooth that turns grey or darker, often after an old knock, may have a dying nerve. It can be painless, so an X-ray is the only way to know.
A deep cavity, crack or old filling
A large cavity, a broken tooth or a deep filling close to the nerve lets bacteria in. Treating it in time can mean a filling instead of a root canal.

Endodontic treatment
questions, answered
Who will carry out my endodontic treatment?
Your treatment is planned and done by Dr. Sudhanshu Bhatnagar, MDS (Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry), or Dr. Gauri Bhatnagar, MDS (Periodontics & Implantology). Both have 21+ years of experience, and you'll know who is treating you before you book.
What treatments come under endodontics?
Endodontics treats the pulp and roots inside a tooth. It includes root canal treatment, re-treatment of an old root canal, abscess treatment, cracked tooth care, treatment of injured teeth, and pulpotomy or pulpectomy for children's milk teeth.
How do I know if I need endodontic treatment?
Common signs are lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, throbbing pain, pain when biting, a swollen gum or a darkened tooth. Some infected teeth cause no pain at all, so only an examination and X-ray can confirm it.
Is endodontic treatment painful?
With local anaesthesia, it feels much like having a filling. Most patients say the pain they came in with was the worst part. Mild tenderness for 2–3 days afterwards is normal and settles with simple painkillers.
How much does endodontic treatment cost in Jaipur?
It depends on the treatment, which tooth it is (front teeth usually have one canal, molars three or four) and whether a crown is needed. After a ₹300 check-up and ₹200 X-ray, we give you the exact cost before starting.
Is it better to remove the tooth instead?
Saving your natural tooth is almost always better. An extracted tooth leaves a gap that lets neighbouring teeth shift and usually needs an implant or bridge later, which costs more. Extraction is advised only when a tooth can't be saved.
