What is oral surgery?
Oral surgery covers procedures that go beyond a simple filling or cleaning: removing wisdom teeth, taking out teeth that are broken below the gum, placing dental implants, grafting bone, and releasing a tongue-tie. Most are done under local anaesthesia in the clinic chair, and you go home the same day.
People come to us for many reasons: a wisdom tooth that's stuck or keeps getting infected, a tooth broken below the gum, a gap they want filled with an implant, or a child's tongue-tie. At Tooth Talez, a digital X-ray shows the tooth, roots and bone before we plan anything. You get a clear plan, the exact cost and written aftercare, so recovery is quick and predictable.
Signs you may need oral surgery
If any of these sound familiar, book a check-up. An X-ray shows whether a tooth can stay, needs removal or can be saved another way.
Pain at the back of the jaw
An ache behind your last molar that comes and goes, or spreads to your ear or head, often means a wisdom tooth is pushing through without enough room.
Swollen, sore gum over a tooth
A flap of gum over a half-erupted wisdom tooth traps food and gets infected (pericoronitis). It tends to keep coming back until the tooth is treated or removed.
A broken tooth below the gum
A tooth that has broken down to the gumline, or a root left behind, usually can't be saved with a filling and needs a careful surgical removal.
A missing tooth you want replaced
A gap from a lost or removed tooth lets nearby teeth drift and the bone shrink. An implant, with bone grafting if needed, replaces the root and keeps the jaw firm.
A tight band under the tongue or lip
A tongue-tie or lip-tie can make feeding, speech or cleaning the teeth difficult. A quick frenectomy releases it, often with very little discomfort.
A milk tooth that won't fall out
If an adult tooth is coming in behind a milk tooth that hasn't loosened, the milk tooth may need to come out so the new one can move into place.

Parents' Questions, Answered.
Who will carry out my oral surgery?
Your procedure is planned and done by Dr. Gauri Bhatnagar, MDS (Periodontics & Implantology), or Dr. Sudhanshu Bhatnagar, MDS (Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry). Both have 21+ years of experience, and you'll know who is treating you before you book.
What procedures come under oral surgery?
At Tooth Talez, oral surgery covers wisdom tooth removal, surgical extractions, dental implant surgery, bone grafting, socket preservation, tongue-tie release (frenectomy), milk tooth extraction and dental cyst removal. Most are done under local anaesthesia in the clinic.
Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?
No. Wisdom teeth that have come in straight, can be cleaned and don't cause problems can stay. Removal is advised when they're impacted, keep getting infected, cause decay in the neighbouring tooth, or don't have room to come in.
Is oral surgery painful?
Not during the procedure — the area is fully numbed. Afterwards, expect some soreness and swelling for 2–4 days, usually worst on day two or three, managed with prescribed painkillers, cold packs and the aftercare we explain.
How long does recovery take after oral surgery?
After an extraction, most people are back to their normal routine within 2–3 days, and the gum heals over 1–2 weeks. Implant and bone graft sites take longer to heal fully. You get written aftercare for your procedure.
What is a tongue-tie and should it be treated?
A tongue-tie is a short, tight band under the tongue that restricts its movement. If it affects feeding, speech or cleaning the teeth, a frenectomy — a quick, minor procedure — releases it.
