What is Pediatric Dentistry?
Pediatric dentistry, also called pedodontics, is the dental specialty for babies, children and teenagers. Children's teeth are different from adults': milk teeth have thinner enamel and decay faster, jaws are still growing, and a frightening first visit can make a child afraid of dentists for years.
A pediatric dentist is trained for all of this. Care focuses on prevention (fluoride, sealants and good habits), on saving milk teeth that hold space for adult teeth, on spotting habits like thumb-sucking early, and on keeping every visit calm. At Tooth Talez, children are treated by Dr. Sudhanshu Bhatnagar, an MDS pedodontist with 21+ years of experience, and laughing gas is available for anxious children.
Signs Your Child Should See a Dentist
Children don't always say when something hurts. Watch for these, and book a check-up if you notice any.
White, brown or black spots
Chalky white or dark spots on the teeth are early signs of decay. Caught early, they can be treated simply, sometimes without a drill.
Toothache or a swollen cheek
A chipped front tooth can be rebuilt with tooth-coloured bonding, often in one visit, so it matches your other teeth.
Falling asleep with a bottle
Milk or juice at bedtime pools around the teeth and causes baby bottle tooth decay, often on the upper front teeth first.
Thumb-sucking after age 4
Thumb or finger-sucking that continues as adult teeth come in can push teeth forward and change how the jaws grow. Gentle habit correction helps.
Fear of the dentist
If your child is scared, a gentle pediatric dentist, a calm first visit and laughing gas when needed can change how they feel about dental care.
A fall or knock to the teeth
A chipped, loose, pushed-in or knocked-out tooth after a fall needs a same-day check, even if your child seems fine.

Parents' Questions, Answered.
When should my child first see a dentist?
By their first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth coming in. Early visits catch problems like baby bottle tooth decay early, and help your child get comfortable at the dentist before any treatment is needed.
Do milk teeth need treatment if they fall out anyway?
Yes. Milk teeth hold space for the adult teeth and help your child chew and speak. A decayed milk tooth can cause pain and infection that may affect the adult tooth underneath, and losing one too early can make adult teeth come in crooked.
Is laughing gas safe for children?
Yes. Laughing gas (nitrous oxide) is a mild, widely used sedation that helps anxious children relax while staying awake. It wears off within minutes after the mask is removed, and Dr. Sudhanshu monitors your child throughout.
How can I prevent cavities in my child's teeth?
Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, limit sweets and sugary drinks between meals, and don't put your child to bed with a milk bottle. Fluoride varnish and sealants add extra protection, and check-ups every six months catch problems early.
What should I do if my child knocks out or breaks a tooth?
Call us straight away. If an adult tooth is knocked out, hold it by the crown, rinse it gently, and put it back in its socket or keep it in milk, then come in within the hour. A knocked-out milk tooth isn't put back, but your child should still be checked.
Are dental X-rays safe for children?
Yes. Digital X-rays use a very low dose of radiation, and we take them only when they're needed to see problems hidden between the teeth or below the gums. Many children's check-ups need no X-ray at all.
