What is Periodontics?
Periodontics is the dental specialty that treats the gums and the bone that hold your teeth in place. Most gum problems start quietly: plaque and tartar build up along the gumline, the gums turn red and bleed when you brush, and over time the infection spreads below the gum into the bone. This advanced stage, called pyorrhea or periodontitis, causes bad breath, receding gums and loose teeth. It is one of the most common reasons adults lose teeth.
The good news is that gum disease can be stopped, and caught early, reversed. Treatment ranges from a deep cleaning that removes tartar from below the gums, to gum surgery for deep pockets, to splinting teeth that have become loose.
At Tooth Talez in Vaishali Nagar, gum treatment is led by Dr. Gauri Bhatnagar, an MDS periodontist. Gum care is her specialty, not a side service, so you're treated by the right specialist from the first check-up.
Signs You May Need Gum Treatment
Gum disease is often painless until it's advanced. If any of these sound familiar, get your gums checked.
Bleeding Gums
Gums that bleed when you brush or floss are the earliest sign of gum disease. It isn't normal, and caught at this stage it's fully reversible.
Red, Swollen or Tender Gums
Healthy gums are pink and firm. Puffy, red or sore gums mean the tissue is inflamed and needs a professional cleaning, not just a new toothpaste.
Receding Gums
Teeth that look longer, or sensitivity near the gumline, can mean the gums are pulling back and exposing the roots.
Loose or Shifting Teeth
Teeth that feel loose, or new gaps that appear between them, are a sign of bone loss from advanced gum disease. Early treatment can often save them.
Diabetes, Pregnancy or Smoking
These raise the risk of gum disease and make it progress faster. Regular gum check-ups help catch problems early.
Bad Breath That Won't Go Away
Constant bad breath or a bad taste, even after brushing, often comes from bacteria trapped in pockets below the gumline.

Gum Treatment Questions, Answered.
Why do my gums bleed when I brush?
Bleeding gums are usually the first sign of gum disease (gingivitis), caused by plaque and tartar along the gumline. Caught early, a professional cleaning and better brushing reverse it. Ignored, it can progress to pyorrhea, which damages the bone that holds your teeth.
What is pyorrhea and can it be cured?
Pyorrhea (periodontitis) is advanced gum disease that destroys the gum and bone around the teeth, causing bad breath, receding gums and loose teeth. Deep cleaning, gum surgery in advanced cases and regular maintenance can stop it. Lost bone doesn't grow back on its own, so early treatment matters.
Is deep cleaning painful?
The gums are numbed where needed, so most patients feel only pressure and vibration. Teeth may feel sensitive for a few days afterwards, which settles with a sensitivity toothpaste. Deep cleaning is usually done in two to four sittings, one section of the mouth at a time.
Can loose teeth be saved?
Often, yes. If teeth are loose because of gum disease, treating the infection and splinting the teeth together can make them firm enough to keep. An X-ray shows how much bone support is left, and Dr. Gauri will tell you honestly which teeth can be saved.
How much does gum treatment cost in Jaipur?
It depends on how advanced the gum disease is and whether you need deep cleaning alone or gum surgery. After a ₹300 check-up and ₹200 X-ray, you get a clear plan and the exact cost before treatment starts.
How can I stop gum disease from coming back?
Brush twice a day, clean between your teeth daily, avoid smoking, and come in for maintenance cleanings every 3–6 months as advised. Gum disease can return when tartar builds up again, so regular check-ups matter most.
